Stereo microscopes

A stereo microscope provides a three-dimensional view of a sample at lower magnifications, typically up to 50x, making it ideal for dissection, assembly, and inspection. A compound microscope offers higher magnifications but a flat, two-dimensional image, suited for observing thin, transparent specimens like cells.

Most standard stereo microscopes offer total magnifications between 5x and 50x, often via a zoom system. Advanced models with interchangeable objectives and eyepieces can reach up to 200x, but with reduced depth of field and working distance.

Stereo microscopes often use incident (reflected) light from above for opaque objects. Ring LED lights provide shadow-free illumination, while goosenecks allow flexible directional lighting. Transmitted light from below is used for transparent or translucent samples, and many stands support both.

Yes, virtually all modern stereo microscopes can be equipped with a dedicated microscope camera. These cameras connect to a computer via USB or HDMI, enabling live viewing on a monitor, image capture, and video recording for documentation, training, or quality control.
